Once in Italy, the route descends to the town of Aosta, then follows the valley down to the Po plains, reaching Piacenza. From Piacenza, the path heads east towards Venice, skirting along river paths and through small Italian towns, each brimming with cultural heritage, unique architecture, and the rich culinary traditions of northern Italy. Finally, the journey concludes in Stra, located in the province of Venice, symbolising the end of this extensive walking adventure from home to home.
From Piacenza onward, we changed paths. This is the original route that we were supposed to take. But while walking, we discovered that we could have saved 200 kilometres by taking a more trolley-friendly way. We followed the bank of the Po River along a cycleway which took us very close to Venice.
